What I've Been Listening To: When I'm 64

So I recently read Kiss Me and Thrill Me both by Susan Mallery, and Eddie and Gladys made me think of "Warning" by Jenny Joseph, which makes me think of Beatles "When I'm 64" so I had to listen to it.

Warning

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

What I've Been Listening To: We Are Young

Actually this week I've been listening to a lot of 60s music thanks to the 60s channel on Spotify but last night I was re-reading some of my favourite parts of The Understatement of the Year by Sarina Bowen, and at one point in the book Graham and Rikker are going into a club and the music playing is Fun, so instead I wanted to give you "We Are Young" ft. Janelle Monáe with Fun. So I guess this is another music/book mash-up.

What I've Been Listening To: Perfect (Music and Book Mash Up)

I've been listening to this song a great deal this past week and when I do I think of a scene in The Year We Fell Down by Sarina Bowen:

"I was perfect," I said. "And I didn't even know."
"No," he whispered into my ear. "No, no. Perfect isn't real." I took a deep, shaky breath, and the feel of his strong arms around me began to feel steadying. "There's no more perfect, Callahan. Now there is only really damned good" (212).

What I've Been Listening To: Mando Diao - Love Last Forever

As I posted last week I went to the World Cross Country Championships and I've also been watching the competitions on tv a lot so this song has been floating around my brain a great deal.
